Frequently Asked Questions1. How far along do I need to be for a gender determination ultrasound? We recommend coming in 19 weeks and after. If during that time frame and we are unable to determine gender, we will have you come back on a different day at no charge. If you want to come in as early as 16 weeks, there is a $50 fee if we are unable to determine gender. 2. I’ve read online that gender can be determined as early as 15 or 16 weeks, why do you recommend waiting?Your baby’s gender is determined at the moment of conception. However, it takes time for boy or girl parts to get big enough so that a sonographer can accurately determine what they are seeing. A common mistake among sonographers is when a woman comes in early for an ultrasound. If the baby’s legs are crossed and no penis is visible, the baby girl parts can be swollen and look like the scrotum for a little boy. We don’t want to be wrong which is why we recommend waiting until at least 19 weeks. 3. How far along do I need to be for a 3D/4D ultrasound? We recommend coming in between 27 and 36 weeks. If you are a fuller figures mom, we recommend waiting until at least 30 weeks. 4. When is the best time to schedule an appointment for a gender or 3D/4D?Now. Most of our appointments are on Saturdays and they can book up quick. If you schedule your appointment 3 to 4 weeks in advance, that is plenty of time. 5. Will I go home will all of my items after my ultrasound? You will go home with your DVD, pictures, CD and goodie bag. The only things you would not go home with are things place an order for like, a coffee mug or baby bib. 6. Are gender checks or 3D/4D ultrasounds covered by my insurance? No. As you are choosing to have this ultrasound, it’s considered elective. Insurance companies do not pay or reimburse for procedures you choose to have done. 7. Do you offer any discounts for gender or 3D/4D?We offer discounts for returning with the same pregnancy, police, fire and military. 8. Is 3D/4D ultrasound safe?Absolutely! 9. Is it possible to have the 3D/4D WITHOUT finding out the gender of my baby? Absolutely! Just tell the sonographer you don’t want to know the gender of your baby and she’ll stay away from “that” area during your ultrasound. 10. Where are you located? We are located on Indianapolis Blvd. (US 41) in St. John, on the west side of the street. Right in the middle of Lake Central High School and Schilling Brothers Lumber. [See map] 11. How many people can I bring with me? We can seat 5 comfortably, but you are more than welcome to bring as many people as you’d like. 12. Do I need to drink 75,000 gallons of water before I come in for my ultrasound? No. But you should drink about 20 ounces of your favorite beverage about 30 minutes before you come. Eating something wouldn’t hurt. 13. What if my baby is not cooperating? If we are able to see baby’s feet, hands, and a profile. We consider that a successful scan. If we are unable to see anything, we will gladly reschedule you for a different day at no charge. 14. Will my images look like the ones on your web site?Perhaps. There are many factors such as mom’s body type, position of baby and amount of amniotic fluid that contribute to the images taken. We can never guarantee anything. We won’t know what your images will look like until we start scanning. 15. What does limited diagnostic ultrasound mean? When you come in, we will check the baby’s heart beat, location of your placenta and the position of the baby. This is considered a limited diagnostic exam. Without doing a full diagnostic exam, we are unable to determine the weight of your baby. 16. Do you do appointments on Saturdays?YES! 17. What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound? A 2D ultrasound is a standard ultrasound in black and white.
